(EW) – For many of us in the Wiregrass the Gulf Coast is like a second home to us, an escape from our everyday lives. We’ve flocked to the shores of Pensacola Beach for the infamous Memorial Day Pride for years. Most of us have been to the former Fiesta La Royale Lounge to see the legendary DeeDee Williams of Panama City perform. The Fiesta was also the starting point of Ambrosia Starling’s drag career as she mentioned in her interview on the Jason Childs Radio Show earlier this week.
This weekend Pensacola Pride will host its annual Festival in the Park. The event will include live Entertainment from national headliners including Sandra Valls. Sandra performed in two Showtime comedy specials, “The Latin Divas of Comedy” and “Pride: LGBT Comedy Slam!” The day will include arts, crafts, product vendors, plus food, drinks, beer, and frozen drinks. This is a family friendly festival so please bring a blanket or chair and prepare to spend the whole day. Pets on leashes are welcome! Pensacola PRIDE runs from Saturday, June 11th, to Saturday, June 18th, with events every day around the Pensacola area. For more information, go to http://ggnwfl.com/ or email PensacolaPRIDE@gmail.com for more information.
Today I had the pleasure of speaking to, William Shurbutt, Community Outreach & Public Relations Director for Pride of the Panhandle. William told me,
“I would like to welcome the Wiregrass to this year’s ‘Glowing With Pride 2016’ taking place the week of June 20-26, Panama City Beach is a family destination and we embrace LGBT families and their children. That is why we plan a large number of events during Pride Week and throughout the year that is kid inclusive.”
A large number of events isn’t an exaggeration, and there are plenty of events that are family friendly! If you’re not able to make it to the various events in Alabama you should definitely consider visiting our sister city. A portion of all proceeds benefit the Abundant Life Community Church & Beach Cares Services, both of Panama City Beach, FL
